This is a fracture that affects young dogs that went through minimal trauma such as falling off the couch when playing. Young dogs and cats have open growth plates and these are more fragile areas of the bone. They stay open so the bones, all over the body, can gain their length and they close in different times when skeletal maturity is achieved. If displacement of the fractured bone (tibial tuberosity) is significative, surgery is indicated. The fee for repairing this type of fracture at VSO is NOK 25 000,- and includes x-rays taken before and after surgery, IV catheter, general anesthesia, pre- and post-op pain medication and collar which has to be used for 2 weeks, until suture removal. Not included in this fee is any follow up appointments as most clients choose to have these done at their local veterinarian.
