Elbow dysplasia means that the conformation of the elbow is abnormal and since forces a applied abnormally at the joint surface, fragmentation of bone and cartilage can happen, causing pain and lameness. Different approaches exist on the treatment of elbow dysplasia and here at VSO, we believe that if bone or cartilage pieces are loose in the joint, confirmed by CT scan, it is like having a loose rock in your shoe. In such cases, surgery is very helpful to remove these fragments and promote pain relief. The treatment of this condition is done by means of arthroscopy. The fee for elbow arthroscopy at VSO is NOK 25 000,- and includes IV catheter, general anesthesia, pre- and post-op pain medication and collar which has to be used for 2 weeks, until suture removal. Not included in this fee is any follow up appointments as most clients choose to have these done at their local veterinarian.
