Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD)
OCD is a joint disease in which a portion of the cartilage detaches from the rest of the bone. That fragment should be surgically removed and the defect treated to stimulate local blood supply and healing. One of the most common places for OCD in dogs is the shoulders and on this location, prognosis is excellent after surgery. The surgical fee for OCD of the shoulder, at VSO is NOK 25 000,- and includes x-rays taken before surgery if necessary, IV catheter, general anesthesia, pre- and post-op pain medication and collar which has to be used for 2 weeks, until suture removal. Not included in this fee is any follow up appointments as most clients choose to have these done at their local veterinarian.
