Dogs can ingest many strange things and while many will pass and come out in their feces, some will stay and cause an obstruction. A complete obstruction can be life threatening and surgery should be performed sooner rather than later. Here at VSO many gastric foreign bodies can be retrieved by means of endoscopy. If the foreign body is lodged in the intestines, surgery is indicated. The fee for gastro-intestinal foreign body is NOK 20 000,- if no perforations are present. This fee includes IV catheter, general anesthesia, endoscopy if the foreign body is in the stomach, pre- and post-op pain medication and collar which has to be used for 2 weeks, until suture removal. Not included in this fee is any follow up appointments as most clients choose to have these done at their local veterinarian.
