Patients affected by intervertebral disc disease can develop spinal cord compression that can range from back pain to inability to move or even feel their legs. In case of severe neurologic signs such as inability to walk, intervertebral disc disease becomes an urgent matter. CT scan or MRI should be initially performed and once the diagnosis is confirmed, surgery is indicated. Surgery provides decompression of the spinal cord and patients that are not walking but can feel their legs have 95% chance of walking again. Spinal cord decompression fee at VSO is NOK 40 000,- and includes x-rays taken before surgery, IV catheter, general anesthesia, pre- and post-op pain medication. Not included in this fee are pre-operative CT or MRI, or any follow up appointments as most clients choose to have these done at their local veterinarian.
